Welcome to this week’s DJ2CombatStress Blog, where DJ Climpo talks about his transition towards becoming a Real DJ!
Bedroom to Main Room
It’s been an eventful month when it comes to DJing and I feel like I’m ever more becoming a Real DJ. I’ve played in front of my first live audience, performed on an FM radio station and am close to completing my DJ training!
Snap Fitness Frimley – Launch Party
I was recently invited by Snap Fitness Frimley to DJ a 4 hour set to mark the launch of their spring programme. This was the first time I had ever DJ’ed in front of people so was pretty nervous. Lots of time prepping some playlists reduced the possible errors on the day. I also invested in a professional looking DJ booth and 15″ PA speakers, capable of smashing out some good quality sound.
Overall it was a fantastic environment to start with. Most people are their to work out so there is less pressure. 4 hours was hard work and a lesson for next time is to have a pre-recorded set ready to put on so that I can have more of a break than 4 mins. Another benefit, was the charitable donations to Combat Stress that the members gave – many thanks!
In2Beats 106.5 FM
Last week I was invited to go B2B with legendary Bedford D&B DJ Gatlee B, who DJs weekly on Bedford’s Urban FM station In2Beats. I’ve been listening to this station since I moved here 2 years ago so was great to see the way a community station works. Another huge learning is that my RX2 is quite advanced; as in more advanced than a lot of the older Pioneer models. This was my first time DJing on on CDJ 2000’s and on a very different mixer (without all the bells and whistles). It meant that I had to adapt fast and be able to mix without all the safety features I’ve become used to.
Without saying too much, there are a few club events on the horizon that I will talk about in the next blog, where I will continue to transition towards being at a club level of performance. In the mean time, catch up with all of my latest shows on Mixcloud.
